Both hide behind a mask that reflects their personality & raison dtre - constantly shifting splotches that present a chaotic but nonetheless simply black & white view of the world to the wearer but whose patterns, like the owner, are open to interpretation by everyone else; a four hundred year old symbol of rebellion, violence, and revolution that the wearer brings to the present day.
Add to this that both have sacrificed their true identities & that their personas, embodied by the masks they wear, their public faces, have superceded, consumed & replaced the men that once were Walter Joseph Kovaks and The Man In Room Five.
